I’d take the Ford all day, and it seems in better condition overall.

Jeez the Chevy owner shouldn’t have parked next to the Ford.

NP all day on the Ford. The Chevy could go either way depending on condition and equipment.
That being said; this is what I’m here for.

CP all day for the Chevy. 10k? Are you kidding me?

Can someone who knows more about these tell me why the Chevy is asking double? Because some version of the SBC?

Because the Squarebody Chevy has developed something of a rabid cult following.

Definitely NP on the Ford. The Chevy it depends on condition and equipment. That's a strong ask, but it might be worth it.

I think it’s a short bed, too. But that’s crazy for a rusty truck.

Good eyes. I didn't look closely enough to see the rust before. Definitely CP then.

I looked at the leading edge of the hood and I was done.

I can understand why, even if I would take the Ford. Then again I’m a sucker for a deal.

The only selling point on the Chevy is old enough to not need a smog. Otherwise tired old 350 and some rust.

As others say, Ford looks like legit NP, Chevy does not. I can see the rust on the hood from here. For a little more, one can find a genuinely pristine squarebody.
Of course, asking prices are often meaningless.

But the Ford is just half a truck. My great uncle drove that model Ford for years and years into his 80s. I guess it went to the junk yard long ago, but it stood out as unusual even in the 1980s.

I like square bodies a lot, but that seems like a lot for a truck with that rust on the nose.
I think there’s a flatbed on the Ford, would swap that out maybe?

The Ford would probably be double the price with the stock bed.

I didn't notice the rust when I made that comment. Now that I see how rusty the leading edge of the hood is, definitely CP.

I sold a really nice 85 Chevy long bed for 6k last year with zero rust and no real options. Seems like they have passed the peak sometime last fall.

The Ford sold for $3,500. Don't know the disposition of the Shivvy, but it was gone when we walked by later.

I did not mention the rust because I thought it was pretty obvious. I can't see that truck being worth even $2k.

I just didn't look carefully enough. That's easily a $5-8k truck here, depending on how the rest of the truck looks.

That's a great buy on the Ferd. I love a good flat bed, but that truck is easily worth double that if it had the original bed.

What you consider a lot of rust, and what we consider a lot of rust, are two entirely different things. My dad’s first truck was a new ‘79 Chevy K10. My dad takes very good care of his trucks. They may be work trucks, but you can eat off his engines. He waxes his vehicles twice a year, and washes them frequently.
Despite that, that K10 popped rust within three years.
Lapsed Opponaut Birddog bought a ‘78 C10 last year (we’re going to rallycross it this year!). I believe he paid $1400 for it, with way more rust, and that around here is a pretty good deal.

That whole rust thing... Doesn’t help the survivors much.
shop-teacher

No, it sure doesn’t. You really need to keep the survivors locked up from first snow until April .
The rockets on my truck have gotten REALLY bad this winter. I’m going to have to bite the bullet and get them redone this year.

Won’t new rockers merely entomb deeper rust? What does the basic to let job cost? When I lived in Germany in the late 80s, we GIs drove cars from the 70s and the stringent German inspection, the dreaded TÜV, required us to get new rockers welded on. I think I might be inclined to take up welding and attempt to do it myself.

It really depends on the vehicle. The rockets are the problem area on GMT800 trucks. The floors behind my rockers are clean enough to eat off of.
Its going to cost me a grand. No way am I doing this one myself.
